Traditional Thai Massage Thai Massage is a thousand years old therapeutic method, originally practiced in Thai temples by old masters, experienced in the art of healing. The massage is based on the concept of energy paths in the human body. By pressing different points along these paths, the masseur relieves the patient of muscle tension and pain. Thai Massage is a combination of massage, acupressure, stretching and gentle twisting and manipulation of the body in a warm environment. Thai massage releases body tensions, aches and pains and increases the energy flow throughout the body by a holistic combination of therapies to create a wholeness of body, mind and spirit.
It is believed that the body has passageways known as 'sen' or 'vessels' and Thai Massage manipulate a handful of major 'sen' lines by pressing certain points on the body to force the energy throughout the body and to release tensions and blockages. The traditional Thai masseur will use manipulative methods to stimulate the 'sen' and move the energy 'lom' or air around the body's meridian.
The founder of Thai massage and medicine was believed to have been Shivago Komarpaj (Jivaka Komarabhacca), who is said in the Pali Buddhist Canon to have been the Buddha's physician over 2500 years ago.
